Tasting Notes: While on a motorcycle trip in the Austrian Alps, Stephen M. Reustle first experienced Gruner Veltliner... Austria’s heralded white wine grape. Fast forward to 2000, Stephen established Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards and in 2005 became the first commercial producer of Gruner Veltliner in the United States. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Gruner Veltliner in the USA and will surely be a collectable. Stephen rapidly became famous as his Gruner Veltliner began taking top honors across the nation and internationally. In fact, in 2016 it was the #1 wine of the Pacific Northwest as declared by Wine Press NW. This flagship wine also contributed greatly to Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards three Winery of the Year designations - 2010 Riverside International Small Winery of the Year, 2015 Wine Press NW Pacific Northwest Winery of the Year, and 2020 Dan Berger International Wine Competition Small Winery of the Year. Sommeliers across the U.S. are now recognizing and recommending Gruner Veltliner as it is the most versatile white wine and literally pairs with any food. To think, all this was because Stephen stopped for dinner at a small inn in the middle of Austria while riding his motorcycle.

Winery Info: Before the vineyard and winery, Stephen and Gloria Reustle owned a successful marketing company that taught them the value of providing “world-class” product to a loyal customer base. Upon arriving in the Umpqua Valley of Oregon, Stephen carefully mapped out 40 acres of vineyards to be planted. Each variety, clone and rootstock was carefully selected to match the diverse hillside soil and unique micro-climates. Using only fruit grown from the estate's Prayer Rock and Romancing Rock Vineyards, winemaking is kept to small lots preserving the disctintiveness of each varietal and clone.
